30 JANUARY 2020 WALLS

Apparently Mother Nature is annoyed, along with many others, about the erection of the border wall between the United States and Mexico. Very strong winds toppled newly constructed sections of the wall in border town Calexico, into the trees growing along the Mexican side of the wall. I wonder when the first wall in the history of Homo sapiens was erected. Prior to our appearance, the species of planet Earth managed to live in harmony without walls or fences or moats.

The funny thing about marking our boundaries in this way is that while we believe we do it to prevent others from entering our space, we are shutting ourselves in and cutting ourselves off from our good. God works in mysterious ways and who is to say that the Mexican you are shutting out would not one day save your life or the life of one of your children? In pushing away what we fear, we also push away what we love.

We may not go to such extremes in our own lives of erecting walls and fences; however we put up invisible walls around our hearts. We shut others out emotionally. We even shut out our own feelings to save us from a broken heart. Many people use anger and violence to drown out the noise of their own consciousness. Will there ever come a time when we release our emotional guards from their duty? Will there be a time when the world is ruled by love, instead of fear? If we continue to dig a moat around ourselves, we will inevitably drown in it.
