I wonder how many children received toy guns, or even real guns, as Christmas gifts. How many of them received games for playing combat or movies about fighting and every sort of violence? My grandchildren (and even my adult children) have toy guns that shoot foam bullets which they leave lying around on the floor. They think that these are harmless, but even play violence is violence. They have water gun fights and snow ball fights. They watch boxing and wrestling matches and call it entertainment.
The problem of violence in our world continues to escalate. We have inner city gangs. We have the killing and murder of individuals by angry and deranged people and we have the mass murder of many by bombs and warfare. Supporters of the NRA want guns to “protect” themselves, but there is nothing about a gun that is designed to protect. Guns were contrived for one purpose – to kill. The foolishness of arming teachers with guns goes way beyond ludicrous. It simply makes more guns accessible to those who are determined to procure them.
Human societies must stop believing in their fantasies like Santa Claus and the fallacy that we live in a world where good presides. The Pandora’s Box of evil has been opened and iniquity is spreading and multiplying at an alarming rate. Making up more ambiguous laws is not going to save us. The mania must stop before we destroy not only the human race, but nearly every other species in existence. The only way to arrest violence is to stop it at home. We must begin teaching our children peaceful means of conflict resolution. We must eliminate the many things that fill their heads with violence and hatred. We must put a stop to the violence and we must do it NOW.
