16 OCTOBER TRUMP IS THE SYMPTOM

After the 2016 election, I was aghast that a man of such obvious inadequate and amoral character could have found his way into the office of presidency. I am amazed that even in light of all the blunders and outright wrongdoing that he has subjected our country to, there are still some who support him. Whenever I see him on the news, I cannot help but notice that he is always scowling. This man is so consumed with hatred, that his every expression exudes anger and contempt. He continually thumbs his nose at those he believes to be “beneath” him and the laws to which he believes that he alone, is immune. Does he ever smile? Has he ever shown even the slightest concern for the people that it is his job to serve?

I have often asked myself, why? How on earth could we allow this to happen? I have concluded that perhaps as a country, we needed this unfortunate challenge to wake us up. The American people have been mesmerized by emerging technology. They spend every spare moment glued to their TV’s, watching reality shows, or one of the many shows and movies that glorify violence. They are simultaneously engrossed in their smart phones and engaged in social media. If they had bothered to look up from all those things that distracted them from the atrocities happening all around the planet, they might have subverted this problem president that is threatening the stability of our country.

In retrospect, I can see that Trump is not actually the problem. He is a symptom of the apathy that had become prevalent, prior to his election. He is the result of people who have given over their minds to others. As another election looms on the horizon, it is imperative that Americans wake up, and stand up for the return of peace and love and liberty for all. We must turn a deaf ear to those candidates who only know how to bash and put down their opponents. We must sit up and take notice of those who revere the earth, who respect all sentient life, and who understand that we are all connected. We must support those candidates who, rather than make empty promises, show up in their vulnerability with a desire to lead with their heart and not their head.
