This blog is being posted a day late as yesterday I removed the last remnants from my previous dwelling. The wear and tear on my body over the past several days was phenomenal. Now I will begin a new year creating order from the chaos.
Years ago I used to date a man who was fond of saying that he was always a day late and a dollar short. He also said that, “If it weren’t for bad luck, he would have no luck at all.” So often, people grow up with these negative sentiments, beginning a pattern of negativity that can last a lifetime.
It can be difficult to change the habit of continually looking for what is wrong in your life, but it is simply a habit and habits can be changed. A few people will be making New Year’s resolutions. A resolution is a firmness of purpose. However; merely stating your intention to change is not enough. Habitually negative thinking cannot be changed by force. It requires awareness. As you notice a negative thought, you simply replace it with a positive one. Over time, the positive thoughts will outnumber the unpleasant ones. When you continually add fresh water to a glass of dirty water, eventually all of the dirty liquid is replaced with fresh. If you are contemplating making a more positive attitude your New Year’s resolution, you must begin by becoming aware of your thoughts. But, that is only the first step.
