Consciousness is defined as the state of being aware. Most people live in a limited state of consciousness. They live in their heads where they are constantly carried along in a roaring river of continuous thought. The stream of their thoughts is only occasionally interrupted by a significant occurrence, or by something requiring their full attention. With the advent of technology, their attention is constantly being averted to something else so they live as in a dream, pulled here and there, never stopping to observe the current moment. Most of the time, they drift along down a memory lane of the past, or they allow themselves to be pushed forward into a future that has not arrived.
Our consciousness lies within the larger perimeter of the collective consciousness of our family, community, town, or the city in which we live. That consciousness is enveloped within the consciousness of our race or our country, which then becomes the consciousness of our entire species. If we fall into a group consciousness that is not in alignment with our own level of consciousness, we may sink for a time, to that level that is unbecoming of our personal integrity. Eventually; however, everyone will rise in consciousness and in wisdom, in spite of themselves.
It is the job of those who have risen in consciousness to stand in the light as a beacon for others to follow. We must become the lighthouses for those whose ships have run off course. Our country appears to have sunk into the dark sea of despair, like a ship colliding with an iceberg. I believe this country was built by those whose awareness visualized a world of peace and harmony. We are being challenged yet again, to reach for the light and the truth that will lead us to a world that is whole. Will we become another civilization fallen to extinction, or will our collective consciousness rise to the challenges we face and emerge brighter than we have ever been?
