19 MARCH 2020 A VACATION

So many people living in today’s world live under constant pressure “to do”. There is a mounting sense of guilt if one does not believe she is doing enough. In her ceaseless frenzy to complete her “to do” list, she may become unglued when faced with extra time on her hands. I suspect that today there are many such people as social distancing, the closing of schools, work places, and many public places, forces them into confinement and isolation. For those whose jobs do not allow them to work from home, the frustration might become overwhelming. Added to these new modifications in their daily lives by the pandemic, many are further impeded today by the arrival of a spring blizzard.

Will you resist what is? Or, will you accept with grace those things over which you have no control? As families are forced to stay home together, will it bring them closer – or will it devolve into domestic abuse? Will neighbors fight over the diminished availability of food and necessities – or will they share what they have in an effort to shine more love and light into the world? It is a trying time to be sure, but we all have choice about how we wish to think and act in this situation. Will we be swept up into the massive fear that has been created, like a helpless insect being sucked into a vacuum, or will we affirm peace, knowing that this too, shall pass?

The universe will always bring us what we need in order to grow. Will we as a human race, grow from this experience? Will we learn to let go of our need to control? Will we let go of greed? Will we learn to be a source of kindness, rather than hatred? This is our opportunity to slow down. It is providing us the opportunity to turn lemons into lemonade. Will we look upon this time as a prison sentence – or as a vacation – a time to rest and renew? Can we be content to simply be? It is up to each of us, alone, to decide.
